Tigray Interim administration accuses The Ethiopian Reporter of political bias

Tigray’s communications bureau accused The Ethiopian Reporter of politically motivated reporting, saying it misrepresented Tigray’s constitutionally recognized administrative territories and downplayed the impact of the conflict in Tigray.

In a statement, the bureau criticized a report aired on the Reporter’s YouTube channel on September 10, 2025 that identified Humera, an occupied town in Western Tigray, as part of Ethiopia’s Amhara region. The Interim administration called the coverage predominantly politically motivated. The statement also objected to the outlet’s description of the two-year conflict as “the war in Northern Ethiopia,” arguing that the phrasing sought to obscure the scale of devastation in Tigray.

The communications bureau urged the Reporter to “take corrective measures” against those involved in producing the segment and warned that the Tigray interim administration could pursue legal action if the issue is not addressed.

The Reporter Ethiopia’s editor-in-chief, Tamiru Tsige responding to our request for comment regarding the September 10 report that identified Humera as part of the Amhara region, acknowledged that the naming was a mistake and stated that the outlet has since corrected the error.

However, the report remains unchanged on the Reporter’s YouTube channel, where it continues to list Humera as part of the Amhara region.
